418 kidney stones successfully removed from patient at Hyderabad’s AINU

In a groundbreaking medical procedure, a team of urologists at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology in Hyderabad successfully removed 418 kidney stones from a patient with only 27% kidney function. The team utilized Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL), a minimally invasive technique, to achieve this remarkable feat.

The 60-year-old patient presented a unique challenge with an unprecedented number of kidney stones and severely impaired kidney function. Instead of opting for a conventional approach, the team, led by Dr. K Purna Chandra Reddy, Dr. Gopal R. Tak, and Dr. Dinesh M, chose to use PCNL, a minimally invasive procedure involving small incisions and specialized instruments.

The intricate procedure unfolded over two hours as the surgical team meticulously removed each stone, utilizing advanced imaging technology and state-of-the-art equipment. This innovative approach not only minimized trauma but also expedited the patient’s recovery, showcasing a significant advancement in surgical techniques for kidney stone removal.

Doctors at AINU emphasized that this remarkable feat serves as a beacon of hope for patients worldwide dealing with kidney stones and related conditions. The success of this minimally invasive procedure highlights the power of innovation in addressing complex medical challenges and improving patient outcomes.
